In a story that seemed too odd to be true, this happened. Buffalo Bills cornerback Vontae Davis decided to retire at halftime of the team’s 31-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Buffalo was down 28-6 at the half.
Davis released a statement on his decision after the game ended on Sunday morning.

But today on the field, reality hit me fast and hard: I shouldnt be out there anymore.
I meant no disrespect to my teammates and coaches. But I hold myself to a standard. Mentally, I always expect myself to play at a high level. But physically, I know today that isnt possible, and I had an honest moment with myself. While I was on the field, I just didnt feel right, and I told the coaches, Im not feeling like myself.
Although the timing isn’t ideal, it’s important that players look out for their own safety especially when it comes to a game that is as dangerous as football with men 200 pounds+ colliding with each other at full speed.
And if Davis felt like he was putting his livelihood on the line to play for a Bills team that looks like it’s slated to have a really bad season, then it didn’t make sense for him to go out there.
