Anti-Black Panther Campaign Is About Racism, Not Harmless Fanboys

Black Panther is getting ready to drop on February 16. It is no wonder why director Ryan Coogler would want the film to debut in theaters during Black History Month.  Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyongo and Daniel Kaluuya, among many other acting favorites of ours, this might be one of the blackest movies ever; from director right down through the cast.

Already, were getting intermittent reports about just how well the movie is doing in pre-sales relative to other movies of its kind. The naysayer would readily assume that such a film would be outdone by prior Marvel Studios offerings that starred such big box office names like Scarlett Johansen and Robert Downey, Jr., but that naysayer would be wrong.

DC fans are trying to sabotage ‘Black Panther’ by ruining its Rotten Tomatoes score https://t.co/GtCH3cTDzu

Pre-ticket sales broke a Fandango record, with early estimates predicting a $100 to $120 million on opening weekend. This will be the first film in the current slate of MCU films to have a black lead character. Historically, the Blade trilogy starring Wesley Snipes holds that distinction.

As can be easily seen simply by turning on the television and watching for more than 10 minutes, a great deal of strife permeates American culture. As individuals who adhere to Donald Trumps worldview, one that centers on white sensibilities, begin to feel comfortable with a revitalized boldness to act and speak on matters of race, an online effort has surfaced that will look to undermine the film’s fate by sabotaging its rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Facebook page was set up urging anti-supporters to use the hashtags #DCoverMarvel and #BringDownDisney.  Though this seems like just another fanboy spat that spilled into the digital arena on the surface, it stinks of just another racist tantrum by cellar dwellers looking to transmit their own low self-esteem and hatred onto others.
