Amar’e Stoudemire Joins Ice Cube’s Big 3 Hoops League

Former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks baller Amare Stoudemire has signed with Ice Cube’s BIG3 as a Co-Captain of Tri-State alongside Captain Jermaine ONeal and Co-Captain Nate Robinson for what should comprise an explosive offense. The 5-foot-8 Robinson is still hoping for an NBA return and has always been a freakishly athletic offensive force who won the 2010 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, becoming the first three-time Slam Dunk champion.

Nate Robinson is one of the most exciting to ever step foot on an NBA court. He’s one of my personal favorite players and responsible for some of the greatest basketball moments I’ve ever seen. From his iconic KryptoNate dunk over Dwight Howard, to the 23pt 4th quarter in the 2013 playoffs.

After a successful first season, Ice Cubes 3-on-3 pro league is attracting some more legit, former NBA talent.

This offseason, BIG3 expanded rosters by adding a second Co-Captain to each team. In recent weeks, Baron Davis (3s Company), Ron Artest (Killer 3s) Glen Big Baby Davis (Power), Carlos Boozer (Ghost Ballers) and Drew Gooden (3s Company) have been announced as high-profile Co-Captain acquisitions.

Stoudemire played 14 seasons in the NBA after being drafted with the ninth overall pick in the 2002 NBA by the Phoenix Suns, where he teamed with Steve Nash to create an offensive juggernaut before injuries dampened his time in New York, where he and Carmelo Anthony never got the chance to develop the chemistry needed to help the Knicks return to championship form. However, his signing brought credibility to the team and sparked a three-season playoff run.

Stoudemire, one of the last highschool-to-pros hoopsters, came right out Cypress Creek High School in Orlando, Florida  to win 2003 NBA Rookie of the Year Award and blossomed into a six-time All-Star who averaged 18.9 points (15,994 total) and 7.8 rebounds (6,632) in 846 career games. He was also named teams and  won a bronze medal with the United States national team at the 2004 Olympic Games.

Stoudemire will join a Tri-State squad that finished sixth in 2017, after falling short to 3s Company in the BIG3 Playoffs. Tri-State will round out its three remaining roster spots in the BIG3 Draft.

The BIG3s 10-week season will tip off on June 22 and air live on Friday nights on FOX Broadcast Network and FS1.
