A Classic Hip Hop Battle Rap Guide To Saturday’s Elite Eight Matchups

With one more slate of games on tap this weekend before we get down to the Final Four, here’s a breakdown of what’s in store from a classic Hip Hop perspective.

The Beatnuts featuring Big Pun and Cuban Link vs Main Source, aka Kansas State vs Loyola-Chicago, Saturday 6:09 PM ET

For the first time in NCAA Tournament history, a No. 9 seed will face a No. 11 seed with a berth in the Final Four on the line.

Main Source – Fakin’ The Funk

What that means for this breakdown is that we’ve got two of the most slept-on teams letting the college basketball world that they belong in any conversation with squads that have the dopest flow.

As You Can See Real Hip Hop Is Not On The Radio.

The Wildcats have no scholarship seniors on the roster and with Barry Brown, Cartier Diarra and Kamau Stokes as starters that are all combo guards, defending the Wildcats is gonna be problematic. And on the other side of the ball, they can defend with a tenacity that’s hard to match.

Loyola Chicago vs. Nevada: Ramblers on to the Elite 8

Loyola has been telling every team they’ve faced thus far, “You’re fakin’ the funk, talkin’ that extra hard talk and prolly a punk!”

And Kansas State’s on some, “Come one, come all, if you wanna brawl, I’m the mighty Thor, clothes-lining MF’ers like Steven Segal!”

Little Brother vs Black Moon, aka Florida State vs Michigan, Saturday 8:49 PM ET

Both teams don’s have that elite, explosive go-to guy, but they operate with immunity as a collective.

In this piece right’chere, we’ve got Florida State, often seen as the Little Brother of ACC basketball, grabbing the mic to match wits with Michigan, aka Black Moon.

Florida State has gotten 118 points, 59 rebounds and 22 assists from their reserves thus far in the tournament while beating Missouri, No. 1 seed Xavier and No. 4 seed Gonzaga.

Florida State vs. Gonzaga: Seminoles cruise to the Elite 8

“We win games by committee,” said Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton, the last African-American still standing on the sidelines in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, after Florida State’s win against Gonzaga. “We might have five guys to start, but they may not be the same five that finish. We believe in that philosophy. It doesn’t really seem to matter with them who is playing as long as we are winning. This is a bunch of guys that are connected. We in the ACC, there are a lot of one-and-dones and McDonald’s All-Americans … we feel that we can compete if we have a number of guys contributing night in and night out.”

Third-seeded Michigan, on a 12-game winning streak,  also spreads the wealth, with point guard Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman having emerged as the best of their unsung heroes.

The Wolverines are the hottest team in the tourney right now, on some straight up, “Don’t front, you know I got you open, kid.”

Black Moon – I Got Cha Opin (Remix)

Track available at iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/enta-da-stage/id14141230 Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/enta-da-stage/28639 The Official video for ‘I Got Cha Opin’. This is one of the truly classic Hip Hop tracks from NYC in the early 90s. An incredible city and an incredible era. ‘Enta Da Stage’ still sounds fresh. Get it now if you don’t already have it.

Florida State has beaten three straight higher seeds to reach its third Elite Eight, and its first since the 1993 team that featured the devastating backcourt of Charlie Ward and Sam Cassell.

After squeaking by No. 21 Houston on Jordan Poole’s 3-point buzzer beater, the Wolverines smacked Texas A&M in the Sweet 16 as if the Aggies had stolen their grandmomma’s rent money, 99-72, led by Abdur-Rahkman’s 24 points. The Wolverines haven’t lost since February 6th.

Michigan and FSU both play incredible defense, so both squads should face a challenge in scoring the ball.

Hamilton, FSU’s coach, went to three Final Fours as an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky from 1974 to 1986 while winning the National Championship in 1978. He is the first to ever be named the Coach of the Year in both the ACC and The Big East.  He’s taken both the University of Miami and Florida State to the Sweet Sixteen and he’s been a two-time National Coach of the Year.

And yet he never gets the props that he deserves, like Little Brother said, “Seems like whatever I do,
it’s not enough for you. I paid the cost and gave you my all, but you still want more. I’m still standing right here, but it seems so unfair. That I sacrifice and give you my life, but you still want more.”
