Miguel Cabrera Is Chasing Twin Triple Crowns

Miguel Cabrera might have OCD. Apparently, he is obsessed with getting things in threes. After becoming the first Triple Crown winner in 45 years last season, Cabrera rode into his primetime matchup against the Texas Rangers leading the American League in Batting average and RBIs, but he has behind the eight ball in home runs. To be exact, he had only homered eight times, which trailed AL leader Edwin Encarnacion by six dingers.

On Sunday night, it took Cabrera three swings to put up a trio of home runs and thrust himself back into the Triple Crown mix. Unfortunately, the Tigers pitching staff surrendered 11 runs to the potent Texas Rangers lineup.

No player has ever won the Triple Crown twice in three years, but Cabrera is swimming against the current with some Michael Phelpsian strokes.
