The Miami Hurricanes may have dodged one since the NCAA found issues with its own investigation into the Miami athletic program. Apparently former enforcement staff members for the NCAA worked with Nevin Shapiro's attorney to improperly obtain information through a bankruptcy case that didn't involve the NCAA. It's going to take an external review before we know how this story ends for Miami.
Tim Reynolds from the Associated Press and CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman go in on this:
In short, the NCAA says everything it got from Shapiro's bankruptcy case, it shouldn't have gotten. Huge holes to plug now.— Tim Reynolds (@ByTimReynolds) January 23, 2013

Emmert: "In my two-and-a-half-years, I've certainly never seen anything like this. And don't want to see it again."— Tim Reynolds (@ByTimReynolds) January 23, 2013
Emmert won't even commit to Miami investigation absolutely going forward. "This is a shocking affair."— Tim Reynolds (@ByTimReynolds) January 23, 2013
The NCAA isn't just policing amateurs.. apparently it's being run by them too.— Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) January 23, 2013
How has Emmert only recently have found out abt this? This stuff has been out there for 5 months: cbsprt.co/P7Hejz— Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) January 23, 2013
JaMarcus Russell doesn't want to be remembered as a bust, so he's going to attempt a comeback to the NFL after missing three seasons. We know Russell is an easy punchline, being overweight and out of shape, the codeine thing, but Russell could have the ultimate redemption story. Don't sleep on the possibility, either.
Tim Brown is now backpeddling faster than any DB that ever covered him.— mike freeman (@realfreemancbs) January 23, 2013
Since Bill Callahan defended himself emphatically against allegations that he sabotaged the Raiders chances to win the Super Bowl 10 years ago, Tim Brown lightened up a little bit.
