LeBron James gives back with scholarships

Even though he leapfrogged college and went straight to NBA superstardom, education is still of high importance to the King. Last week, the Akron, Ohio native announced a plan to send as many as 2,300 kids from Akron to college for free.

Lebron, his LeBron James Family Foundation and the University of Akron worked exclusively together to ensure that every kid who completes James I Promise program will earn a guaranteed scholarship to the university worth approximately $38,000.

James and UA President Scott Scarborough announced the partnership at Jamess foundations annual family reunion event, which this year gathered nearly 5,000 in attendance.

If you are one of LeBrons kids we want to tell you, you have a college scholarship waiting for you at the University of Akron when you graduate from high school, says Scarborough.

What do you dream to be? Do you dream to be a teacher? A scientist? An engineer or a doctor? This college scholarship is your way to make that happen, and all because that man believes in you, Scarborough said, thanking James.

James added This is one of the best things Ive ever been a part of, James said. Kids dont really grow up thinking beyond high school, James said. “Kids need to see a finish line.”
