Hollywood TrailerFest Gives a Peak at Upcoming Films

The New York edition of the annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) treated attendees to a sneak peak of movie trailers from some of the most anticipated upcoming films. Featuring projects from six major Hollywood studios including: Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight, and Walt Disney Pictures, ABFF’s “Hollywood Trailerfest” was a blast for moviegoers that love to watch snippets of films right before the main feature begins.

Senator turned MPAA chairman, Chris Dodd, was on hand at the SVA Theatre where the Trailerfest took place to give a brief introductory speech about MPAA’s long standing relationship with ABFF founder, Jeff Friday. He reminded the audience that last year, ABFF showed a sneak peak of the Oscar winning film 12 Years a Slave, five months prior to its theatrical release date.

After Dodd wrapped his speech, Rick Ramirez of Warner Brothers Pictures presented three short movie trailers for the films Tammy, Into the Storm, and Dolphin Tale 2 starring Morgan Freeman. Ramirez mentioned that we can expect to see the first trailer for the sequel to the Jamie Foxx film Horrible Bosses during the week of June 30. While Get Hard, which pairs funnyman Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell, will be released in March of 2015.

Other film executives attended the trailer festival like Michele Bell, Senior Vice President of Creative Services at Paramount Pictures, and Talitha Watkins, VP of Multicultural Marketing at Universal Pictures. They mentioned that next month, Universal Pictures’ NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, and the sequel to Ride Along, both begin production. Another juicy tip was the announcement that Best Man director Malcolm D. Lee will be directing the film Girls Trip.

And actor Chadwick Boseman attended the event to speak briefly about his portrayal of late soul legend, James Brown, in the upcoming biopic Get On Up.
