Florida Got All Panicky And Banned The Internet

Alright you're not going to believe this. It happened and all, but no way you actually gather it all, at first. So let it settle in …

Florida banned the Internet. Where did I read that? On the Internet. They say you can't believe everything you read on the web, but this much we know. In April, Florida Gov. Rick Scott approved a ban on "slot machines and Internet cafes," defining slot machines as any "system or device" that may be used in a game of chance.

Miami law firm of Kluger, Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen & Levine determined that kind of broad language could apply to any number of devices, including smartphones and computers.

This was all in response to a scandal involving the Lieutenant Governor's resignation. Former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll advised an illegal Internet gambling front.

One Miami Dade cafe owner is suing the state, claiming the law is unconstitutional and just a distorted judgment following the scandal. The accusation is probably spot on. It's all sad and funny at the same time.
