Drake Convinces Jermain Defoe To Sign With Toronto FC

The Toronto Raptors made a big splash in 2013 when they announced their partnership with Toronto-native Drake. Though the position will initially be for the All-Star game in 2014, Drake will also be helping with marketing the team and city for fans and players alike.

Thus far, we haven't seen the fruit from this relationship, but Drizzy is still flexing for Toronto.

Their MLS club, Toronto FC, is making major moves this offseason. They signed legendary Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan for the upcoming season, and are "on the verge of signing" USMNT midfielder, and one of the most essential parts of Juergen Klinsmann's revamped squad, Michael Bradley. Adding those two already puts Toronto in formidable position to compete with other MLS clubs with expensive talent like the Seattle Sounders (who signed Clint Dempsey last year) and the LA Galaxy.

But today, news broke that Toronto will also be signing Tottenham striker and former England goalscorer Jermain Defore, creating one of the strongest attacking forces in the league. Evidently, it was a phone call from Drake that convinced Defoe to leave the top-notch Premier League for the MLS.

Though the club has yet to confirm the signings, they released a video hyping up big signings for the club, to be announced soon.
