Brandon Sherrod of Yale sets NCAA record for consecutive field goals made

Yale is probably more well known for academic records, but this evening they set a new record on the hardwood.

Brandon Sherrod, a senior on the Yale Bulldog’s basketball team, made his 27th consecutive field goal at the 12:39 mark in this evening’s game against Columbia, breaking the NCAA record for consecutive field goals made.

But he wasn’t done there.

Two minutes later he made his 28th, his 29th 40 seconds later and his 30th five minutes later. 30 consecutive made baskets.

“At that point I couldn’t do anything but smile,” Sherrod told CBS Sports after the game. “I was really thanking God for that.”

Sherrod was aware of the record but he wasn’t passing up shots or only looking for the easy ones. And although he missed his 31st attempt, the humble senior put his team first.

“As the game flowed, I was able to get opportunities,” he said. “This whole streak is all because of my teammates. I was really fortunate to get the buckets in the flow of the offense. It also comes at a time when Columbia was tied for first with us. It was a great statement win.”

The Bulldogs now stand at 5-0 in the conference while handing the other top team in the Ivy League, Columbia, it’s first conference loss. For the full story read here
